Outdoor lights are specially used for outdoor environment which requires high quality in terms of water-proof performance(IP65 or above), heat release, weather resistance etc. In this case, every component assembly needs high quality bonding or protection. Many customers are asking what kind of glue should be used for outdoor lights. First of all, we need to confirm what position should be applied with glue for what kind of purpose. From our experience, general application includes thermal-conductive grease should be applied under PCB board, silicone application between housing and cover, DC driver wire outlet bonding or protection etc.  

Silicone glue is often the best choice for outdoor light fixtures because it is highly resistant to weather, UV rays, and extreme temperatures.

Other options include epoxy, polyurethane, and certain types of construction adhesives.

 The right choice depends on the specific type of light fixture and the surface you are attaching it to.

Types of Adhesives

• Silicone Glue/Sealant: Silicone is highly recommended for its durability, waterproof properties, and ability to withstand a wide temperature range, from very cold to very hot.

It is also UV-resistant, so it won't yellow or become brittle over time when exposed to sunlight.

Many silicone products, such as GE Silicone II and Permatex RTV Silicone, are specifically designed for outdoor use.

• Epoxy: Epoxy is a two-part adhesive that forms a very strong, permanent bond.

 It's excellent for filling gaps and can bond to various materials, including metal and concrete. Some marine-grade epoxies can even cure and be used underwater.

• Polyurethane: Polyurethane adhesives are also strong and water-resistant.

They cure with moisture and are good for bonding different materials, such as metal to wood.

 However, they can foam up during the curing process, which can be messy.

• Construction Adhesives: Heavy-duty construction adhesives like PL Premium are waterproof and provide a strong, permanent bond on various surfaces.

 They are a good choice for larger, more permanent installations.

• Hot Glue: For temporary installations like holiday lights, hot glue can be a good option. It's easy to apply and can be removed without damaging most surfaces, including brick. However, it's not a permanent solution and may not hold up to harsh weather for an extended period.

No matter use which kind glue, initial testing on your product is very necessary to guarantee that it reaches your production requirement.
